The selection of a buck is arguably the single most important decision in any breeding program. While a doe contributes half of the genetics to each of her kids, her influence is limited to the offspring she produces. A buck, on the other hand, has the potential to sire many offspring across multiple seasons, meaning his genetic influence extends throughout an entire herd and can shape the direction of a breeding program for years to come.
Every trait a buck possesses—good or bad—has the potential to be passed on to a large number of progeny. Temperament, structural soundness, fertility, longevity, hardiness, and overall health are all critical considerations. Of these, temperament is often underestimated. A calm, trainable, and people-oriented buck is more likely to produce offspring that are easier to handle and manage, creating a safer and more enjoyable experience for owners while improving overall herd management.
A quality buck does far more than produce kids; he leaves a lasting genetic legacy. The right buck can accelerate improvement and consistency within a herd, while the wrong choice can take years to correct. For this reason, we believe buck selection should be approached with the highest standards and careful consideration.
At Treechangers Park, we are committed to breeding goats that excel in temperament, conformation, performance, and overall quality. As a result, only the very best young bucks are retained as entire males and offered for breeding purposes. The vast majority of buck kids are wethered, ensuring that only those we believe have the genetic merit to positively influence future generations are made available as breeding stock.
Due to the evaluation and management required for these select animals, breeding bucks must be secured by 10 weeks of age. This allows us to identify and reserve the highest-quality prospects while maintaining our commitment to responsible breeding and continual herd improvement.
Our goal is simple: to provide breeding animals that will contribute positively to the herds they join and help our clients achieve long-term success in their own breeding programs.
We offer free companion animal with buck sales. (Pending availability - Not compulsory if buck has buck friend/s.)
